Our next Fairfield Trading Card Spotlight Features Emo Baer, who is displayed on card number 35, from the Fairfield Collection.  These cards commemorate Fairfield, Iowa's unique distinction as the "Renaissance Capital of the World." Emo is truly an unbelievable person and war hero.  Emo joined the British Army and fought in WWII.   He saw action in Egypt, Libya and Italy.  After the war Emo became a well-known farmer who received a prestige award as “the first exporter of roses from Western Galilee”.   Emo became a member of the TM (transcendental meditation) community in 1973.  Emo came to Fairfield, Iowa in 1984 working at the Maharishi University of Management Library.  He attended the school and got 3 bachelor degrees in literature.  He became a writer of his own autobiography “The Transcendental Rose” and wrote many other items such as novels and poetry.  

Where did you grow up?

I grow up in Germany. When I was 15 years old, I moved to Israel.

Growing up, what did you see yourself doing as an adult?

 I was a soldier in WWII, but wanting to become a farmer.
What decade was your favorite and why?  What were you doing at this time?

In the 1950’s my farm developed very well.

 What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘Fairfield’?

 TM.

When did you first meet Walter day and where was it at?

 We met in the Dome at MUM.

If you could describe Walter Day in one word, what would that word be and why?

 A great entrepreneur.

What are your favorite type of books and why?

I like Fiction the most.

What do you think about electronic books that you can download versus the actual physical hard copy?

Not much. I still like to hold a real book in my hands.

What is your favorite Sport? Any Favorite Player?

I like soccer. No special favorite.

How is your involvement in Fairfield important to you?

Creating World Peace.

What is your opinion on war today compared to when you served your time in WWII?

Wars should be avoided as much as possible.

What does it take to be an enthusiastic historian?

Reading about history.

Are you still involved with the environment, and what role do you play?

Being on the Invincible America Assembly.
