Neil Clarke (born 1966) is an editor and publisher of science fiction and fantasy. A longtime fan of short fiction, Neil started his career in SF when he launched Clarkesworld Magazine in 2006. Since then, Neil and his team at Clarkesworld have received three Hugos, a World Fantasy Award, and a British Fantasy Award. Fiction published by Clarkesworld has won or been nominated for the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, BSFA, Sturgeon, Locus, Shirley Jackson, Ditmar, Aurora, Aurealis, WSFA Small Press, and Stoker Awards. Neil has been a Hugo Award finalist for Best Editor (short form) five times (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017). In 2007, he launched Wyrm Publishing to handle the print and digital editions of Clarkesworld and signed limited editions featuring work by authors like Gene Wolfe, Jeff VanderMeer, and Charles Stross. More recently, Wyrm has been focused on magazine and anthology projects. While attending Readercon in 2012, Neil suffered a near-fatal heart attack, after which he had a defibrillator implanted in his chest. This inspired his first original anthology, Upgraded (Wyrm Publishing, 2014) and reprint magazine, Forever (2015). Since then he has edited several anthologies including Galactic Empires, More Human Than Human, and The Best Science Fiction of the Year series for Night Shade Books. Clarke and his family currently reside in New Jersey.
